Center for Shamanic Study

& Ancient Wisdom

From Old French "sanctuaire", from Latin sanctuarium, from sanctus ‘holy.’

The early sense ‘a church or other sacred places where a fugitive was immune,

by the law of the medieval church.

The Sanctuary is located on the land of the Sacred White Deer, 6 acres of wild forest planted with over 100+ fruit trees, edible bushes, and medicinal & native plants. We also have free-range chickens, a mushroom log farm, and more!

Our goal is to recreate the ancient Lenape forest with its diversity of plants, bushes, trees, and wildlife. We aim to foster sustainability and deep ecology principles. Our vision is to inspire everyone in the restoration & preservation of ecological systems in the age of global collapse.

We work with Native Elders and Wisdom keepers to share their knowledge in order to reconnect to ancient wisdom teachings and ways of relating and living. We believe that in this time of the "great turning" as Joanna Macy calls it, we are all being called to step into a different relationship with the natural world and each other.

Our land has been certified by New York Bee Sanctuary as a safe habitat for pollinators,

a Monarch Waystation, and as a certified wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

The Sanctuary is a member of the Callicoon Business Association, the Sullivan County Visitor Association (SCVA), and the Association for Spiritual Integrity (ASI).
