About the Event

Experience the magic of birthing your own medicine drum with your very own love, passion & energy entwined in its being. Connect with the heartbeat of Mother Earth and the spirit world to discover your true self.

This workshop will be held at The Sanctuary by Mia Luz, a Drum Doula (Check this video about her)

A Doula is someone who helps mothers during childbirth. Similar to childbirth and a baby, whereas one cannot plan the process or the outcome, so is the process of the drums I support others birthing in my workshops. It is an organic unfolding of energies, beings, and the building blocks involved. And no matter what, one will love the outcome unconditionally and grow, evolve, and learn with it.

You will learn some basic shamanic traditions and rituals and as a final passage, she drums over each newly born drum to pass on the vibration of the linage of drums from the Ojibwe that has been passed down to each new drum for generations.

Shamanic Drum-Making Workshop

A day filled with beauty, love, nurturing of our spirits, and a channeling of our hearts through our hands, connecting us to our ancestors and our Earth Mother. Mia offers the teachings of the drum that her Ojibwe Elders verbally passed down to her, with respect for those who passed along the knowledge of how and why to make drums since the beginning of time.

The sacred drums she assists in birthing, carry your own rhythms and vibrations as well as those of Pachamama, and by playing them you'll connect to her heartbeat. To make them, we only use carefully selected natural, raw or recycled materials with respect and reverence for the animals and trees provided by the creator. Mia personally cut all drum-heads and lacing by hand, always from the same animal hide as to not have opposing energies/personalities in the drum. All frames are handmade in British Columbia using only salvaged Yellow Cedarwood.

The awareness, love, and blessings going into the preparation of the materials for these sacred instruments, translates into the powerful medicine tools they become. As a final passage, she drums over each newly born drum to pass on the vibration of the linage of drums from the Ojibwe that has been passed down to each new drum for generations.

These drums are made to last for generations. If well taken care of and respected for what they are, the next seven generations will be beating to the heartbeat of the Earth on the drum you created and brought into being.

Imagine the power of that!

We will be making your choice of a 14", 16", or 18" round elk-hide drum with a cedar frame and the mallet.

Price includes all materials and fees, drum-making ceremony, drum initiation, pre & post ceremony instructions.

“I believe the drums themselves taught me to be a drum maker. Then again, I think the only credentials a drum maker can have, ultimately, are the voices of her drums.” — MIA LUZ

About Mia Luz

After a lifelong interest in spirituality and the healing arts together with a strong connection to our Earth mother, it was natural for Mia to find her way to the birthing of the sacred drum. Deep-rooted studies of Shamanic Earth-based traditions from all around the world fortified her path and sent out the call.

She has creatively worked with her hands since childhood, always using natural, raw materials, which easily translated into this craft. The first time she tied a drum with the Ojibwe Elders she had a strong deep sense it was not the first time she was making a drum, she knew it had been in her being for lifetimes.

Blessed with the craft and the offerings of mama Gaia she is able to put forth these sacred instruments and healing tools and share them with the world. Connecting and sharing with souls on the path, it has been an honor for her to support many others in the birthing of their own medicine drums, rattles, and sacred tools.

She is a contemporary Medicine Woman an Alchemical Priestess, Circle facilitator, and a Drum-Doula. Certified practitioner of Shamanic Energy medicine an Ojibwe Pipe Carrier and a mother.
