The Power of Prayers

Reflecting back on this year, and praying into this new one, I can see how my prayers are manifesting. I can easily connect to the aim I had and see how the target was hit or miss.

Often people come to sacred work and ask for "strength" or "courage". A prayer that I have voiced too. And learned that it might/will create more struggle so we can see how strong and courageous we are... Praying for ease, flow, grace is often better aiming.

I was born into an atheist family where prayer was never part of the picture. Also non-baptized in a Christian catholic country, I never grew up going to masses or churches aside for tourism purposes. Very little would I, therefore, know about praying, meditation and even less would have ever imagined that one day those two practices will be the fuel, guidance, wisdom and most powerful practice of my days to create an empowered life.

I understand many people get “triggered” when we talk about Prayer. Instantly bringing into their mind a pre-conceived idea of a “Dictator God seating in a big chair in the sky and playing with our destiny”. Yet it is my experience that with prayers you might find a gem, the beginning of an answer, to some of the most pressing issues you & the world are facing.

Yet it took years for me to discover the essential power of Prayer. And it is an ongoing journey, a dance, to refine them and sit with them with a centered and peaceful loving heart.

I wanted to share with you this podcast I recorded a while back on the power of Prayer. May it help your practice and your life.

Great Spirit Prayer

“Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, Whose breath gives life to all the world. Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others. Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy Myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame."
